Learning to read and Write
"Learning how to Read and Write" by Frederick Douglass indicates his desire of learning how to read and write. That also tells the power of knowing how to read and write. In the story he says that he learned how to read first, and from the book he read " The Columbian Orator" that he reallized how bad or sad the situation of slaverey is. The book spread the idea and the ability of reading let people recieve the idea and being able to think more about that. Learning how to write gives ablity to air and spread the idea. Ultimately, knowning how to read and write would certianly change the way we think.

Casa: A Partial Remembrance of a Puerto Rican Childhood
The story by Judith Ortiz Cofer is really interesting but kind of confusing,  What my understanding now about the "stories repeated through three generations" are for reminding them to be careful from falling love with a boy. The issues of Maria, the narator's mother and her anut in Puerto Rico made them afriad of trusting in men. Therefore when they came to the United States and as the narator grows order, the mother try hard to protect them from harm.

  Mother Tongue
I totally agree what the auther says that we uses different Englishes (or other languages) in our daily life. We speak differently with different gruop of people. The way we speak at home is usually different as the way we do to other people. As a Chinese immigrant, i can absolutely understand what auther's mother talking about with her "limited" English. Those are the common mistakes that most Asians would make. Ultimately, i also agree  that our language would be influenced differently by our family base on the level of their language.
